- TV Go Home #
- No idea what this is, but Now 'n Shit is a fantastic name for a youth-oriented news show.
- Long-Term Browser Share #
- That is a graph with intent written all over it.
- Rocket-Propelled Bridge #
- This would be a poor choice of bridge to fall off.
- FFFFOUND!: Golden Gate Bridge #
- That's a photo? Wow.
- DF: Mozilla's Weird Relationship with Google #
- While Mozilla would be one of my most trusted organisations, they certainly feel more commercial than grassroots these days. I dunno, I guess their "big thing" was breaking the browser monopoly, and they've done that now, so... ?
- Waxy: The Faces of Mechanical Turk #
- Mechanical Turk fascinates me. I don't think I'm going to really understand it for at least ten years, and it was created by a frickin' bookstore.
- iPhone: Not a Nokia #
- For me, this (screenshot of an) app is what the iPhone is all about. Almost half the screen is dedicated to a simple fuel gauge. It's an expense tracking app. I could never imagine doing something like this on my Samsung. Prepare a silver platter, and kindly bring me the 32GB iPhone.
- MY TV IS HALF MY LOUNGE LOL #
- There was already enough irony without putting the grand piano stool in front of it.
- iPhone NumPad #
- I shall briefly suspend my utter hatred of NumPads to comment on how unexpectedly right that looks.
- DF: A Two-Year-Old Smoking #
- Good grief.
- Video: Google Voice Search for iPhone #
- Holy crap that's fast. (Also, as noted by others, great sound effects.)
- Movember, with Steve Jobs #
- There's some great stuff in here.
- Sticking It to the Hacks #
- A lot of "pro" blogs are fucking shit aye.
- Smaps will be permanently closing on 1 December #
- So... why's that, then?
- Must-Have Firefox Extension #
- "Stop pages loading with the vocal contributions of MC Hammer."
- Jerry Yang's Memo on Stepping Down as CEO #
- Yahoo: No Idea What The Hell We're Doing Since 1999.
- How to Price Your iPhone App out of Existence #
- "Making it up on volume" and other myths.
- DF: Powered by Apple Linux! #
- Well, that never looked very likely. What is really awesome here is the way Steve Jobs rubs it in - man, that was cold.
- BusinessWeek: Dell Looks Up "Design" in the Dictionary #
- Overall, it's probably a good strategic change of focus. This current batch, I dunno... while some are pretty cool, it kinda reminds me of Duraseal - which is more suited to a $1 exercise book than a $800 computer.
- QWOP #
- You know, I always took it for granted, but starting today I have total respect for my ability to run. (Best: 4m.)
- Vimeo: Wrapi-Do #
- This is how Japanese people stop their headphones from getting tangled. Oh yes, it's clever! I doubt I'll bother though.
- Welcome to Now #
- This is what using a computer will be like in 20 years. Also, we will all be in movies.
- DF: A Fantastic Monument #
- Hunter S. Thompson, 1972: "We are really just a nation of 220 million used car salesmen with all the money we need to buy guns, and no qualms at all about killing anybody else in the world who tries to make us uncomfortable."
- Trade Me: Diamond Engagement Ring From Cheating Ex. #
- Heh, I see there's one or two people taking the opportunity to vent in the comments.
- Daily WTF: The Receptionist Test #
- Heh, clever and effective.
- Let G.M. Go Bankrupt #
- There's a lot less free market than you might expect in the US sometimes.
- NZ 2008 Election Results #
- 59 seats for National and 5 (!) for ACT. Change has arrived, and I cautiously welcome our new capitalist overlords, because I still don't know what to make of Key. NZ First are out - only 4.2% and Winston got thrashed in Tauranga. In other good news, Peter Dunne's majority was massively eroded. Two other interesting electorates: The Corruption Party couldn't hold Mangere, and could Rongotai be a future Green electorate seat?
- The People #
- You have one thing to do today. Don't fuck it up.
- OBAMA #
- The front pages, the day after. I wouldn't mind securing myself a copy of the NYT.
- Video: McCain Concedes #
- I like how he tells the booers where to go. This is the McCain I would have voted for. (If he weren't running against Obama, of course.)
- Video: Obama Victory Speech #
- "I'll be your president too."
- Porsche vs. the Hedge Fund Suckers #
- As noted in the article, chortling aside, this kind of thing is actually quite bad for worldwide financial stability.
- Microsoft placing "I'm a PC" recording booths outside Apple stores #
- This is like a soap opera.
- Elderly Man Knocks Over Thief, Rips Off Balaclava #
- Anyone else think it's odd to smash the windows with sledgehammers when the door is wide open? (Or, you know, in broad daylight in the middle of town.)
- Windows 7's UI #
- I don't normally like to jump on the Microsoft is copying Apple! bandwagon, but just a heads up for the Windows users: your Taskbar is about to turn into an OS X Dock. What's strange about this is that the Dock is not even a well-regarded part of OS X. I keep mine hidden off the right (and use Cmd-Tab, Expose and Spotlight for app switching/launching). The window-dragging gestures and peeking sound like quite good ideas, though. We'll see how it turns out - Microsoft's problem isn't that they don't have good ideas, more that they don't say no to bad ones.
- H&FJ: Typographic Poster #
- I like. (Not totally convinced about the message of course, one of Obama's favourites.)
- YouTube: Yes We Can - will.i.am #
- A song set to a speech. Works amazingly well, thanks to some sumptuous production. (Also because of Scarlett, who brightened my day by waiting on me in this irritating celebrity vote PSA.)
- Flickr: Thank You Anyway #
- You never know where the next fact is gonna come from.
